    Who Is Heather?

Heather Torbert is owner Lisa Heather Torberts mom. She died at the age of 66 from diabetes. Her many talents included art, music and writing. In addition to these, my mom passed on to me some endearing qualities such as the ability to love and care about people, to give everything you have, to accept people for who they are, to help people to get through tough times, and to have a good sense of humor whenever possible. Mom's life was not easy, as she became addicted to drugs and alcohol in her twenties. She also suffered with depression most of her life. At the age of forty, after years of trying, she finally was able to "kick the habit" of drugs and alcohol forever. She was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and celebrated 27 years of sobriety. However, she substituted into some very unhealthy "other addictions" such as smoking, caffeine and food addictions (chocolate, sugar and carbohydrates).

I am so proud to be so much like my mom, having inherited so many of her wonderful talents. She had a profound effect on my life because of her life long struggles with addictions and depression. It was so strong that a couple of years ago I decided to give up my current life profession and return to school to pursue a career as a drug and alcohol counselor. I am currently enrolled at Wilmington College working on my Masters in Community Counseling and a second degree as a Natural Health Practitioner. My long-term plan is to open a huge center that will not only offer peace and relaxation but will help people in a holistic way with any health complications including addictions. Heather's wants to teach preventative medicine and offer a natural approach to health that builds up the bodies immune system so it is able to heal itself.

Heather's Holistic Health currently offers many services that help people to relax, offer a healthy lifestyle and also make you feel good. Massage, yoga, acupuncture, tai chi, reflexology, energy work and meditation are all ways to relax but did you know they also raise dopamine in the receptor sites in our brains. Dopamine makes us feel good and so we offer healthy ways to achieve that. But drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, sugar and junk food (carbohydrates) also raise dopamine in unhealthy ways. So our extended plan is to offer a center that can incorporate those good things to all people as a way to become healthy.

Our future plan is to open a facility that will offer a totally new look at addiction. We will have a gym (exercise being the biggest way to raise dopamine), juice bar, chiropractic, psychotherapy, education about addiction and a different type of support group to compliment the others services we now have. It's time we treat addictions in a biological way to help increase the chances for recovery.

Mom was an avid reader, she read almost every self-help book in print, which she generously donated and are included in our library. They are offered to our customers to rent as a courtesy.

Mom gave to me an incredible gift. She gave to me the ambition to take a chance, to make a change, and offer a new way to help all people achieve optimal health. This center is dedicated to my mom, Heather, my best friend and special angel. Because of her we here at Heather's are able to offer a touch of heaven to everyone that visits our center.
