    Yoga Studio

Yoga is a series of different body stretches called postures. Yoga is holistic, meaning it works the whole body. It strengthens and lengthens the muscles in the body, can eliminate aches and pains, increases your flexibility, and can reverse the aging process. It brings on a feeling of relaxation, balance and clarity. It can make you stronger on the inside and out. Yoga works the following systems: circulatory (blood), respiratory (lungs), endocrine (glands), cardiovascular (heart), muscular, nervous, digestion, skeleton (bones) and articulation (joints). Yoga can strengthen your major muscles (legs, arms, and lower back), minor muscles (wrists, hands and fingers), and organs (heart, lungs, veins, nerves, and tendons).

Yoga is the practice of body awareness, showing how the mind and body work together. Breathing is the secret to reaching the mind/body connection. As Americans we live stressful lives and our breathing is very shallow. We tighten up our muscles and somehow forget to relax them. Subsequently, this causes blockages in our bodies, which can lead to disease. In yoga, we learn very deep breathing which conditions body metabolism, lowers our blood pressure and heart rate, stabilizes brain wave frequencies, and causes RELAXATION! And lets not forget that it feels good.

Yoga can be learned by anyone because it is easy. It doesn't matter how old or out of shape you are. It is always wise to consult a physician if you have any health concerns. Our beginner classes are very slow and relaxing. We start with an easy warm up, followed by some easy postures, and end with final relaxation where you can enjoy fifteen minutes of music (ocean waves, animals sounds) with a guided imagery (reading meditations/affirmations).

    Yogalates/Pilates

Yogalates is a fusion of the ancient yoga techniques mixed with modern pilates techniques. It gives you the best of both techniques helping to develop core strength, help tone muscles, increase flexibility and to reduce stress.

    What is Pilates?
Pilates is a fitness regimen that combines stretching and strengthening to work the entire body efficiently in natural dance-like movements. You work with your body not against it.

    History of Pilates?
Pilates was created in the 1920's and once well known only to the dance world. Joseph Pilates pioneered his fitness philosophy to overcome his own disabilities. He combined the breath work from yoga with weight training and gymnastics to bring the body into proper alignment. He believed that many of us have imbalanced bodies because we overdevelop the strong muscle groups which can lead to poor posture and spinal misalignment. He designed this restorative and conditioning technique to help people overcome injuries and improve general core weakness.

    Who Is Yogalates good for?
Yogalates is good for almost everyone. It has great benefits for back pain and postnatal women because it builds core strength through the torso. It is not appropriate for pregnant women.

What do I need for Yogalates?
A yoga floor mat to protect your spine from a hard surface. We sell yoga mats here at Heather's for $20.00.

    Drum Circle

    Rhythm
Everybody has rhythm; in fact life does not even exist without rhythm, because it is a harmonic interval of the very vibrations that all matter in the universe is composed of. Even though Einstein proposed his theory of relativity many years ago, modern science still can not tell us if light is a ray or a wave, or how it could be both, but we do agree that light is a vibration. Every major religion on Earth states that the universe began as sound (God gave the Word, and then there was form) and science even agrees, as in the "Big Bang" theory.

    Sound and Spirit
Sound is a vibration that we use to communicate with each other and with God. Consciousness is a vibration, and through rhythm and sound we can alter our stress induced states of consciousness into a harmonic relationship with nature, which can bring us closer to the Divine. Every religion that I know of uses rhythm and song for ceremony. In singing and language, vowels are mantras that resonate at specific frequencies, while consonants give language its rhythm. Drumming is an ideal way for everyday people to connect with their inner emotions, to heal, and to connect with our ancestral roots.

    Healing Drums
Several recent studies have linked drumming with positive intentions to a positive immune system response, increased levels of HGH (a human growth hormone that keeps us young and healthy), and stress reduction. Rhythm is an internal language that most people can relate to, but over the centuries it has become associated with musicians. Everybody who has a heartbeat, walks, talks, breathes, eats, and sleeps has rhythm. Just like any other language, rhythm has cultural aspects, it can be learned at any age, and there is no limit as to how much can be learned in a lifetime.

The significance of the Drum Circle- Drumming is a vital part of the lifestyle in many native cultures around the world. The purposes served through group drumming are as diverse as the indigenous peoples on our planet. It can be a way of strengthening bonds within a group, a means for showing reverence or a vibrant voice in the celebration of important events. It can invite healing, express creativity or serve as a form of meditation.
